The Butte County Search and Rescue Team is a group of citizens who are skilled in many facets of SAR disciplines. Due the the varied, and sometimes rugged terrain of Butte County, the Search and Rescue team plays a crucial role in locating and rescuing lost or endangered persons. Whether in water, on land, or in the air, the Search and Rescue team does its part to protect the citizens of Butte County.
The Butte County Search and Rescue Team is a non-profit, all volunteer and non-tax supported unit of the Butte County Sheriff's Office. Search & Rescue team members are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They take time away from jobs and family to provide rescue services for Butte County, and as a mutual aid agency, will respond anywhere in the State they are requested.
Our nationally accliamed Butte County Search and Rescue was the lead agency involved in the evacuation of Butte Creek Canyon during the flood of 1997. They set up and carried out the evacuation and monitored water levels throughout the crisis, responding to over 100 calls during the height of the flood. They were also involved in a number of swift water rescues.
